Mysore Bangalore Relay

Page history last edited by Prakash Murthy 1 yr ago

Running is not as popular in India as it needs to be.

Given that running is an inexpensive sport to take up and is accessible to everyone without restriction of age, color, caste, social status, sex, sexual orientation, economic status, etc., running has amazing potential in India.

RunWalkIndia was conceived with the objective of making running popular in India, and aims to get thousands of people to take up running over the next few years.

Something mind-blowing is required to capture the imagination of people all over India. The idea of organizing a Mysore-Bangalore Relay is born out of the need to create some such thing.

Having a few thousand (50K, 100K, ...) people take part of the 140+ km distance relay over a few days (a week or two) period will definitely make the entire country sit up and take notice. After much thought and consideration, the conclusion I have come to is that this mega-event is very much necessary, and is also not very difficult to accomplish.

Originally I had earmarked the end of October for this relay event, with the relay intented to culminate in Bangalore on November first - the Karnataka Rajyotsava Day. However, realizing the complexity involved in making this a success, I have decided to move this two months behind and plan the event around Christmas and New years Day.
